A year ago, I discovered the joys of Bikram. My beloved other – was away for the summer chasing wild boars on safari in the depths of Southern Africa, so what better time to do something for me…
And that something was Bikram. Intensive yoga in a room heated to 105 degrees. Sounds like hell?? Yes. But after two weeks hard drinking with the girls (well, my other half was away and it was a beautiful summer … rude not to have couple of cheeky drinks by the river), the promise of the most intensive detox ever was, well, quite frankly very appealing.
You are warned before class to … ‘come prepared to get hot, wear light clothing and bring at least a litre of water with you’ . Sounded fine. Bring it on … I was ready for my first Bikram class … to partake in the twenty-six posture exercises which would systematically move fresh, oxygenated blood to one hundred percent of my body, restoring all of my system to healthy working order, just as Nature intended. I was promised that proper weight, muscle tone, vibrant good health, and a sense of well-being would automatically follow…
